It was a hardcover bestseller as "CAT AND MOUSE", and now it's been updated with a recent preface from Briana Lane for this digital edition called "MIND GAMES WITH A SERIAL KILLER".  And, yes, all the yucky photos from the original (the ones people used to steal right out of the books in the bookstores), yes, they are here digitally in full.  No page tearing needed.

Growing up, Briana Lane excitedly saw herself in every movie about a heroic professor who fought the school establishment in order to protect and nurture and inspire her students to find their greatness.  The part she didn't quite grasp was that all those heroic professors eventually got crushed and destroyed by the powers-that-be, and their legacy was neither institutional change nor personal success, their legacy was only what their students took away with them.

So when Professor Briana Lane was about to attack the world's largest University system in real life, trying to root out corruption, greed, and a decline in public education quality that was failing the students, she was warned by the Editor at "THE CHRONICLE OF HIGHER EDUCATION" that her whistleblowing was going to put her in the cross-hairs of a University Presidents and Chancellors and their degree-laden Thugs who would stop at nothing to protect their multi-billion dollar business and their own perks and bank accounts.  "This is your last chance not to do this," said the Editor, "your story is ready to go to press, but you have to give me the go-ahead, and there is no shame in saying no."  To which Professor Lane laughed, just like those cool profs in the movies.  "I'm not worried, because the truth will set us free, and all I am doing is telling the truth.  Go to print," she said.

What followed was an American story, an American tragedy, the perfect example of what is wrong with American institutions, a case study in the addiction of money and of power, and the total loss of truth and trust.  But, like those movies, there is a hopeful ending and a crucial victory for the forces of good and the caring of Professor Briana for her students and for education itself.
